James E. “Hoss” Cartwright is a retired United States Marine Corps four-star general who last served as the eighth Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from August 31, 2007 to August 3, 2011
General (retired) Cartwright currently serves as the inaugural holder of the Harold Brown Chair in Defense Policy Studies for the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He is also a member of the Defense Policy Board Advisory Committee which provides independent, informed advice to the Secretary of Defense on long-term, enduring issues central to strategic planning. In addition, General Cartwright serves as a member of The Raytheon Company Board of Directors and as a defense consultant for ABC News.

General Cartwright is an advisor for several corporate entities involved in global management consulting; technology services and program solutions; predictive and Big Data Analytics; and advanced systems engineering, integration, and decision-support services. He serves as an advisor to the Board of Directors for Accenture Federal Services, Enlightenment Capital, Logos Technologies and Opera Solutions. He is also affiliated with a number of professional organizations to include the Aspen Strategy Group, The Atlantic Council, Nuclear Threat Initiative, and The Sanya Initiative.

Michael D. Smith is a Professor of Information Technology and Marketing at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering (summa cum laude) and his Masters of Science in Telecommunications Science from the University of Maryland, and received his Ph.D. in Management Science and Information Technology from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.

Professor Smith’s research uses economic and statistical techniques to analyze firm and consumer behavior in online markets — specifically markets for digital information and digital media products. His research in this area has been published in leading Management Science, Economics, and Marketing journals and covered by professional journals including The Harvard Business Review and The Sloan Management Review and press outlets including The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Wired and Business Week.

Professor Smith has received several awards for his teaching and research including the National Science Foundation’s prestigious CAREER Research Award, the 2009 and 2004 Best Teacher Awards in Carnegie Mellon’s Masters of Information Systems Management program, the best published paper award runner-up for Information Systems Research in 2006, and best paper nominations at the International Conference on Information Systems and the Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences. He was also recently selected as one of the top 100 “emerging engineering leaders in the United States” by the National Academy of Engineering. Professor Smith currently serves as a Senior Editor at Information Systems Research, and has previously served as an Associate Editor at Management Science and Management Information Systems Quarterly.

Prior to receiving his Ph.D., Professor Smith worked extensively in the telecommunications and information systems industries, first with GTE in their laboratories, telecommunications, and satellite business units and subsequently with Booz Allen and Hamilton as a member of their telecommunications client service team. While with GTE, Professor Smith was awarded a patent for research applying fuzzy logic and artificial intelligence techniques to the design and operation of telecommunications networks

Brad Hunt is President of Digital Media Directions and a digital media consultant working with clients in the consumer electronics, computer, television, and motion picture industries. His consulting has involved work in digital rights management, online content distribution, content fingerprinting & watermarking, high-definition DVD managed copying, PCTV, home media servers, digital mobile TV broadcasting, and 3-D home video.
Previous to Digital media Directions, Brad was the EVP & Chief Technology Officer for the Motion Picture Association of America. At the MPAA, he worked closely with the six major studios on content protection and anti-piracy initiatives and policymaking. Prior to the MPAA, he held the position of President & CEO of Cintel Inc., a manufacturer of digital film post-production hardware and software. Prior to Cintel, he was the SVP of Technology for All Post Inc., a Los Angeles based video post house where he established one of the first DVD authoring and MPEG compression facilities in the U.S. He also had a long career at the Eastman Kodak Company where he held jobs in research & development, marketing, international sales, and strategic planning and was responsible for launching Kodak’s Digital Motion Imaging Division.
Mr. Hunt has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. degree from the William E. Simon Graduate Business School at the University of Rochester. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

Aaron Moss handles a variety of entertainment litigation, intellectual property and general commercial matters, specializing in protecting the rights of owners and users of creative works. He litigates high-profile copyright infringement actions for both plaintiffs and defendants, including studios, independent distributors, production companies, video game publishers, technology firms and individuals. He also counsels clients on all aspects of copyright law, including chain of title and clearance reviews, ownership transfers, license termination, copyright preemption, fair use, music sampling and internet piracy. Mr. Moss has particularly extensive experience with the Copyright Act’s statutory termination provisions, and has litigated cases involving numerous entertainment properties when authors’ heirs have sought to recapture copyrights under these statutes. He has also served as both an expert witness and a media commentator on copyright related matters.

Mr. Moss was named by the Daily Journal as one of the “Top 20 Under 40” attorneys in California in its 2011 report.
