Chief Executive Officer
FX Networks and FX Productions

John Landgraf is Chief Executive Officer of FX Networks and FX Productions. As CEO, Landgraf oversees all aspects of entertainment and business operations for FX Networks, including FX, FXM, FXX, as well as FX Productions (FXP). Landgraf is also responsible for FX Networks’ digital video-on-demand platform, FXNOW.

Landgraf joined FX as President of Entertainment in January 2004 and was elevated to the position of President and General Manager of FX Networks in May 2005. Since then, Landgraf has led FX to all-time highs in ratings and revenue.

FX has become home to some of the finest scripted programming in cable television. FX was the first and only basic cable channel to boast award-winning scripted series in both drama and comedy. FX has garnered more Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award nominations and wins in acting categories than any other basic cable network. In 2014, FX Networks received a total of 45 Emmy nominations, setting a basic cable record for the highest total nominations in a single year, and took home eight statues – the most in its history. This year FX also received more Critics’ Choice Television Award nominations and wins than any other network.

Since Landgraf joined FX, the channel has increased the amount of its original programming five-fold. His legacy of acclaimed and award-winning programs began with Rescue Me and has expanded to include Sons of Anarchy, Justified, American Horror Story, The Americans, Fargo and numerous award-winning comedies, including Louie, Archer and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. FX has been building on that momentum in 2014. The first season of The Strain became the #1 New Series on cable among Adults 18-49 and the premiere of American Horror Story: Freak Show set a ratings record as the most-watched single program in FX’s 20-year history. Not to be outdone, the FXX Network, launched by Landgraf in September 2013, capitalized on the ground-breaking 12-day marathon of The Simpsons to become the #1 rated basic cable network among Adults 18-49.

The increase in programming is due in large part to Landgraf creating FX Productions. FXP produces FX’s newest hit drama series The Strain, the hit comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, Archer, Louie, Married and You’re the Worst, and co-produces the drama series The Americans, Sons of Anarchy, Justified and Tyrant.

Before joining FX, Landgraf was President of Jersey Television, a company he co-founded in 1999 along with former Jersey Films partners Danny DeVito, Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher. From 1994-1999, Landgraf was Vice President of Primetime Series at NBC, helping to develop or oversee shows including The West Wing, Profiler, Suddenly Susan, ER and Friends. He began his television career at Sarabande Productions as Director of Development in 1988, rising to the level of Senior Vice President.

Landgraf holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Pitzer College in Claremont, California, and was a Coro Fellow from 1984-85. Landgraf has been named Chair Appointee to the Executive Committee of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Board of Governors. In May 2012, Landgraf received the Vanguard Award for Programming from the NCTA. He was also named Adweek’s 2013 TV Executive of the Year.
